Fittingly, today's clip for the 1987 NBA Finals shows us the aftermath of the Los Angeles Lakers' fourth NBA title of the decade. This is the celebration following their 106-93 win over the Boston Celtics for the title. Enjoy!

Though it may not be pretty, there is one clip that defines today's profilee, Kevin McHale. Here it is; the infamous clothesline by McHale on Kurt Rambis during game 4 of the 1984 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. Though things got really testy here, Boston had the last laugh; they won the game in overtime 129-125 en route to a seven-game series win.

In another of my uploaded videos, this autonomous clip is CBS' introduction to game 1 of the 1985 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. This isn't the snippet from the NBA's DVD celebrating those Lakers; this is the full intro to the game, Brent Musburger and all! The Celtics won the "Memorial Day Massacre" 148-114, but the Lakers won the series in six games for their first championship series win against the C's. Check out the full game video (and I mean full game!) at my Youtube channel (DownsA530's channel)!

In tribute to Bob Cousy, I dug up a clip from the oldest NBA game preserved today. It comes from a "Vintage NBA" show about Cousy, and it's from game 6 of the 1963 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers in what was Cousy's last game as a Celtic. Boston won 112-109 for their fifth straight NBA title. The action comes from the 1st quarter of that game, and though the segment preceding it is in Spanish, the game is still in English. Enjoy!

I have already posted the clip of the famous Gar Heard shot from game 5 of the 1976 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Phoenix Suns, so I won't repost (look under the 1976 archive). Here is part of CBS' intro to that game. The Celtics won this game 128-126 in triple overtime to take a 3-2 series lead, and won the series in six games.

Until I write up my next profile, I'll show a new clip for the Zone. It is the CBS intro to game 1 of the 1987 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. L.A., rested and healthy, beat up the battered Celtics 126-113, and eventually won the series in six games. It would be the last meeting in the Finals between the legendary rivals for 21 years, and the last Bird/Magic Final. Enjoy!

Although I tried to find a clip from the 1977 NBA Finals for my Bill Walton profile, none of the clips interested me. So, instead, here's the beginning of game 1 of the 1986 NBA Finals between Walton's Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets. The Celtics won this game 112-100, and eventually beat the Rockets in six games for their 16th NBA title. Interesting note; this was the first time that the title series was known as the NBA Finals (it had previously been known as the World Championship Series). Enjoy!

Today's Dave Cowens tribute clip comes from a year-end retrospective of the Celtics' victory in the 1974 NBA Finals. This segment comes from game seven of that series where the Celtics played the Milwaukee Bucks. Cowens, after coach Tom Heinsohn changed his defensive strategy on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, had his best offensive game with 28 points as the Celtics pounded the Bucks 102-87 to win their first title since 1969.

Until my internet at home works again, I'll use the computer at school to post today's clip. It comes from the end of game 6 of the 1974 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks (this is a hint at who will be profiled next (Hint: It's not the focus of the Vintage NBA from where this is taken, John Havlicek!). Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (also not the next profilee) hits perhaps his most famous sky-hook to give the Bucks a 102-101 victory in double overtime. However, the Celtics win game 7 in Milwaukee to clinch the championship two days later (May 12).

I have already posted the end of game 6 of the 1985 NBA Finals, so with those Finals being profiled, why not have the beginning? Here is CBS' intro to that game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. L.A. beat the Celtics 111-100 to win their ninth NBA title and their first ever against the Celtics. It was the only time the Celtics have lost a title on their home court, which makes this a very historic moment in NBA history.
