Though it may not be pretty, there is one clip that defines today's profilee, Kevin McHale. Here it is; the infamous clothesline by McHale on Kurt Rambis during game 4 of the 1984 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. Though things got really testy here, Boston had the last laugh; they won the game in overtime 129-125 en route to a seven-game series win. With the new feature of Finals reviews, why not show a clip from that Final? Sure there have been several clips from this Final, but not from the finish! Here are the final 1:55 of game 7 between the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Boston Celtics. L.A. started this clip down 105-100, and then scored a basket to trail by two. However, Boston finished scoring the final six points for a 111-102 victory and their fifteenth NBA title. This was the start of their three Finals matchups, and this was the best of those three Finals. Enjoy! In honor of Robert Parish, the Zone presents a clip of one of his finest NBA moments (no, it's not his fight with Bill Laimbeer!). It comes from the final 1:34 of game 4 of the 1984 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. Near the end of this clip, Parish forces a steal of a Magic Johnson pass, giving Boston a chance to win it in regulation. Although Kevin McHale misses, forcing OT (and Parish fouls out in the extra session), the Celtics managed to win 129-125, tying the series at two, and evetnually went on to win the series in seven games. Another two video day in the Zone! The second video today is CBS' intro to game 3 of the 1984 NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. This intro features two steals; the famous "Havlicek stole the ball!" steal from 1965, and Gerald Henderson's steal to help force overtime in game 2 of this series. Despite the defense on display here, it was the Lakers' offense on full display in this game; L.A blew out the Celtics 137-104 to take a 2-1 series lead. It was after this game that Larry Bird called himself and his teammates 'sissys", and that inspired Boston to an eventual seven game series triumph and their 15th NBA title. CBS Intro: Game 1, 1984 NBA Finals 12/09/2008
Here is the first Youtube video on this link. It's the intro to game one of the 1984 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Note the change in CBS' intro; instead of the traditional Brent Musburger intro playing admist the theme, his intro goes under a different score, and then the classic CBS theme plays in warp speed mode. And Brent makes a mistake when he says Tom Heinsohn played in the previous Finals between the teams in 1969 (Heinsohn retired in 1965). But this a very cool intro!: |
