This is the intro to game 4 of the 1989 NBA Finals between the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Pistons finish off the Lakers in a four game sweep with a 105-97 win at the Great Western Forum. This intro features an interview by Pat O'Brien with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, in what proved to be his final game after twenty years in the NBA. Also saying goodbye was CBS' Brent Musburger; this was the last time he ever did the NBA on CBS intro (he was fired on April 1, 1990). Enjoy the Bad Boys! I'm in such a good mood today, I'm posting two videos! If you think that the old classic CBS intros are old-school, imagine the music they had in the mid-70s, when they first got the NBA package. This is the intro to game 3 of the 1975 NBA Finals. This features the old "give it all you got" song (yeah, the NBA on CBS song back then actually had lyrics!). The Warriors beat the Bullets in this game 109-101, en route to a stunning four game sweep, the second time in the decade the Bullets got swept. This is considered one of the most shocking upsets in NBA history. Enjoy the real retro feel! This is the final two minutes and change of game 4 of the 1987 NBA Finals. The Celtics lead by six, but the Lakers eventually take a one point lead. Then, the classic final sequence; Larry Bird drills a three for a two-point lead, then Kareem Abdul-Jabbar splits his free throws, but the ball goes back to L.A., and Magic Johnson hits his "junior sky-hook" to give L.A. the lead, and when Bird misses a last-second three, the Lakers win 107-106, taking a 3-1 series lead and eventually winning the series in six games. This is the intro to game 4 of the 1987 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. L.A. overcame a big first-half hole to win 107-106 on Magic Johnson's famous junior sky-hook shot (that will be the next clip here, and btw, the Oscar Robertson profile will be tomorrow). Enjoy! Here is the end of game 5 of the 2004 NBA Finals. The Detroit Pistons finished off the Los Angeles Lakers 100-87 to win the Finals 4-1 and became the first team since the NBA changed the Finals to a 2-3-2 format to win the middle three games as the home team (twice the road team accomplished this; the Bulls in 1991 and, ironically, the Pistons in 1990). This was the end of the Shaq/Kobe years in L.A., as Shaq was traded to Miami after the series. So, enjoy the last strains of the happy days for two of the NBA's most recognized stars! This is the end of regulation (final 2 minutes) of game 3 of the 1991 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. Vlade Divac makes a spectacular play to give the Lakers a two point lead late (and doesn't flop!), but Michael Jordan scores a jumper to tie it and force overtime, where the Bulls won 104-96. That jumper was also the play where Jordan jams his toe landing on Byron Scott's foot, but we all know Jordan didn't miss any action, or even skip a beat! Enjoy! This is the intro to the final game of the 1988 Eastern Finals. The Pistons beat the Celtics in this game to advance to their first final since their Fort Wayne days in 1956. This starts with a cool foreword by Isiah Thomas, then goes into the Dick Stockton voiceover (which I think is just as good, if not better than Brent Musburger's). It's another departure from the standard CBS intro, and I hope you like it. CBS Intro: Game 1, 1984 NBA Finals 12/09/2008
Here is the first Youtube video on this link. It's the intro to game one of the 1984 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. Note the change in CBS' intro; instead of the traditional Brent Musburger intro playing admist the theme, his intro goes under a different score, and then the classic CBS theme plays in warp speed mode. And Brent makes a mistake when he says Tom Heinsohn played in the previous Finals between the teams in 1969 (Heinsohn retired in 1965). But this a very cool intro!: |
