As with other profiles of older players, there weren't any good Bob Pettit clips. So, I'll instead feature his old team, the Hawks, in a classic game 7. This game seven came from the 1988 Eastern Conference semifinals between the Atlanta Hawks and the Boston Celtics. Dominique Wilkins of the Hawks dueled brilliantly with Celtic legend Larry Bird, scoring 47 points. But Bird's points were more timely; he scored 20 of his 34 points in the fourth as Boston won 118-116 in one of the best seventh games in NBA history. This clip comes from the late 3rd/early 4th quarter, when the action starts to heat up. Since I don't have any clips from the 1992 NBA Finals (and Jordan's famous three-point bonanza isn't readily available in game form), here's a clip from the pre-game intros for game 3 of those Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Portland Trail Blazers. Chicago won this game 94-84 to take a 2-1 series lead and eventually won the series in six games. Here is the final part (finally!) of game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons. LeBron James capped his remarkable finish by hitting the game-winner as the Cavaliers beat the Pistons on the road 109-107 in double overtime. King James and the Cavs finished Detroit off in game 6 at home to advance to their first ever NBA Finals. This is the third of four parts of the end of game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons. Need I say more? Here is the second of four parts of the end of game 5 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons. LeBron James cemented himself as one of the best players in the game by scoring the final 25 points as the Cavaliers won 109-107 to take a 3-2 lead. I figured I had to make it up to Cleveland fans for posting "The Shot" yesterday, so here's comes a collection of clips from the end of regulation and the two OTs of game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons. LeBron James scores the last 25 points (and 27 of the last 29 I believe) for Cleveland as they beat the Pistons 109-107 to take a 3-2 series lead. I'll post the other three clips later today. Here's is part two of the Michael Jordan tribute clip. It is the post-game to "The Shot" as Jordan and the Bulls celebrate their upset of Cleveland and prepare to face the New York Knicks. This includes a great interview by James Brown with Jordan, so I felt it should be included in the tribute. In tribute to Michael Jordan (and to the dismay of Cleveland fans), we will post two clips from the same game. The first clip is the final :19 of game five of the 1989 first round between Jordan's Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bulls take a 99-98 lead when Jordan scores, then give it right back on a Craig Ehlo layup. Then, with three seconds left, Jordan hits "The Shot" over Ehlo to leave the Richfield Coliseum in stunned silence as the Bulls move on with a 101-100 victory. More to come! Sorry about the delay in posting the clip, but I assure you it will be worth it. It comes from game 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers, and it's among the most famous shots of Michael Jordan's career (and believe me, there were many). During the 3rd quarter of the game, Jordan took off from the foul line, switched the ball from his right to left hand, and hit a layup that electrified the Chicago Stadium crowd. It was his thirteenth straight field goal (this clip features all 13 shots!) in the game (a Finals record) and the Bulls rolled over the Lakers 107-86 to tie the series at one game each, and the momentum shifted permanently to the Bulls, as they beat the Lakers 4-1 to win their first ever NBA title. Here's my make-up clip! It comes from game 4 of the 1999 Western Conference Semifinals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Spurs ended the Lakers' run at the Forum with a 118-107 win. Sorry, Lakers fans; this is the best I can do! |
